Obituary – Terry Jones
It is with great sadness we report that former Chairman and much valued member of the Chorale, Terry Jones, passed away after a short illness on 18th April 2019.
Terry was a devoted husband to Denise, a loving and supportive father to his children Alex, Gabrielle, Nick and their partners and a much loved and very special grandad to Aria.
With his wonderful larger-than-life personality, Terry had a real presence to all members of The Manchester Chorale. He loyally performed in the bass section for over 30 years, often using his linguistic skills, honed during his working career, to improve our pronunciation of French songs.
Between 2006 and 2012, Terry served with skill and diligence as the Chorale’s Chairman. He always ensured that each member was personally welcomed and thanked for their contributions to the life of the Chorale through their singing and especially in supporting the social life of the Chorale.
To many members Terry was a very special friend. Along with past and present Chorale singers, he and Denise extended this friendship by the formation of a smaller choir ‘Notability’. Terry’s amusing and informative introductions during ‘Nota-Concerts’ were legendary amongst singers and audience members alike.
A fitting tribute to Terry, of inspirational and uplifting music, was performed by a combined choir of Notability together with past and current members of The Manchester Chorale, during the celebration of his life, held on 10th May at St Bernadette’s RC Church in Whitefield.
Away from singing, Terry always enjoyed celebrating or simply chatting with family and friends, whether at home or on holiday trips with his family, in particular during caravan trips exploring Devon and Cornwall. These wonderful times were clearly evident in a moving eulogy given by his children to the packed congregation at Terry’s Requiem Mass, the beautiful booklet prepared to give examples of the life Terry lived, and in the photographic slideshow after the funeral.
Terry will be greatly missed by everyone in the Chorale. He lived life to the full and leaves a wonderful legacy to his family who will miss his love and constant presence in their lives.
May Terry rest in peace and sing with the angels in heaven.
